Terrific Storm Last Night

I was quite certain we'd get hail, but no, not in my area. Just a spectacular lightning display, with some strikes very close to me, and very heavy rain. What a way to finish the month! That was supposed to be the last gasp for storms and rain in this area. Spectacular finish! Very loud, too. So I hope we get a chance to dry out. I need to do a lot of mowing and trimming. It'll be a real job. So much wild growth and I haven't been able to attack it because it's been soaking wet every day for over a week.

With all this rain you'd expect a plague of mosquitoes but I haven't gotten a single bite, and I have not seen any. That's more than a little weird.

Another Rain Storm!

I should tip my hat to Uri Geller. The "Pray for rain!" mantra has worked. Of course, at one time the prayer was for peace in the Mideast. That one didn't work out so well, did it? Rain is easy. Well, I believe-- I believe we are under a flood watch or warning. One of the two. The ground is soaked. If I can get some of the lavish growth trimmed back Memorial Day I will be quite happy. I want my jungle to be confined to certain areas, with clear spaces and paths. That takes constant effort but I can only do it when the vegetation is not soaking wet. I have not noticed any mosquitoes yet. That's really strange.

There was a power outage last night, during the storm (no hail) and most of the time when that happens it's because some stupid drunk smashed into a power pole.

I Can't Complain

Well, you know, with another fine shower of rain this morning and cool air, freshened by that rain, how can I complain? I can't. I had my morning coffee in my garage, surrounded by memorabilia going back almost fifty years. It's a place where I spent happy hours. I don't do very much in there now. I feel too old and too much has changed. I love my workbench and all the tools and the stocks of lumber, and some of the things I constructed, gathering dust. My father had a garage/workshop, a very old structure, and after he died I felt his presence there every time I entered. I think his heart and soul were in that garage. I think my own heart and soul, to the extent I ever had such things (it's questionable) might be in my own garage/workshop. If not there then certainly diffused throughout the gardens. I had an insight this morning, in that garage. I'm always open to an insight. That was gratifying.

It's pretty obvious that I have an affinity for old and abandoned structures, and things that have been cast off-- anything discarded or used up, worn out, junked, speaks to me.

Rain Goes On

We just had a thunderstorm a little while ago. Man, that rain continues and flooding is starting to be an issue in some parts of town, since the ground is saturated. This goes on through Sunday. Severe risk is marginal to slight for us, but west of us quite high. Another round of rain late evening and over night, and the same again after that. I'd sure like to see something like this during the 4th of July. If there's one holiday I completely despise, that's it. Well, we'll see. Meanwhile...

Obviously, I reject "American Exceptionalism" as a complete crock of rancid shit-- rancid shit for those with shit between their ears.

MORE Rain Overnight

Fairly heavy rain but no hail where I live. Cool temps and then mild temps right into June and rain chances linger and linger. This is going to be a strange summer. We've already had three inches of rain for the month. And I sure hope a lot of this precipitation is recharging Lake Meredith and Lake Alan Henry. That would delay a bit the day of doom. Meanwhile, we enjoy cool rain-freshened mornings. I thought I'd never experience such things again. I'm enjoying the heck out of all this.

I've just noticed that the Blogger interface has changed and improved a little bit. Interesting. Seems quicker. I guess I like that change!
