Sherman Apartments, And Beyond

Lots of ruins in Lubbock, that's for sure...

Plenty of abandoned homes! There's even a derelict hotel on Avenue Q! It's right across the street from the International House Of Pancakes!

There are junkyards all over town, some semi-hidden and others in clear view.

Disposing of an old mattress is a real problem, sometimes solved by dumping them in a vacant lot, where they will moulder for years before the city picks them up. There are parts of Lubbock where a city official would not be caught dead-- too poor, too dirty.

This old truck could probably be restored or converted into a nice Rat Rod.

Looking At Lubbock, Again

My wife and I visited a part of town that has been effectively isolated by construction of the Marsha Sharp Freeway and I-27. It's awkward to get to. We found SHERMAN APARTMENTS, a tiny complex for sale.
On superficial examination they look OK. Get closer and you find many problems. Note that there is no provision apparent for either heating or air conditioning! The units are tiny and poorly designed. There are no appliances. Flooring is rotten. The roof has been leaking.

And there are homeless people and or druggies squatting there.

You could demolish this complex and build something else on the land, but...
...location, location, location. Access is difficult, traffic noise is high.

You've actually got vegetation growing up and into the very structure of Sherman Apartments! Not good. Even if you are an aspiring slumlord, I don't think you could get anyone to live in this complex. In our opinion, the city should condemn this property, tear it down, and build a park for the homeowners in this neighborhood.

Lubbock! More!

There will always be more pics of Lubbock, here, because that's where we live.
This house is for sale. It is east of Ave. Q on about 39th Street. If you contact me, I could put you in touch with the owner. It would need a lot of work but it could be a rental. My wife noticed that it has FOUR phone lines, landlines, going into it. That's a little unusual. In fact, the lady across the street has a rental for sale that needs only minor repair, and the lady's sister has a house for sale. Snap them up and rent them to Tech students? I'd try to broker this deal for you, if you happen to reside in the UK, or Latvia, Ukraine, or Russia... I would take a small percentage.

The lovely outdoor toilet belongs to another property.
Throw aside your inhibitions! Cast away your false shame! Move your bowels in the full view of your fellows! Ahhhhh.

Lots of people in town find it acceptable to dump other forms of crap in public places.

This used to be a "gentlemen's club" but it has been long abandoned. By "gentlemen" we mean fat, stupid, redneck, sexist pigs with drinking problems, rapist tendencies and erectile difficulties. Lubbock has more than its share of such gentlemen, so it is amazing that this place did not make a go of it. It seems to have been very poorly managed.

There is a lot of land in Lubbock that just sits, unused. That tells me the land is worthless. No surprise. Let's not forget where we are.

Another Look At Slaton

We were there for the Oktoberfest, and so had an opportunity for more views of that town.

This white building is abandoned and up for sale. It used to be the Driver's License Office. I remember it well.

Slaton has its share of abandoned buildings but it is prosperous compared to most of the small towns near Lubbock. You can thank the railroad industry for that.
