Soaky Doaky El Quaderno!

 Truly, we have had some rain. I heard yet another downpour and thunderstorm in the wee hours of the night, in the night I say, and I arose to find a sopping wet world and indications that at least another inch of rain had fallen, if not more. My rain gauge was smashed to bits by hail several years ago, so I go by the high water mark on the driveway, left by debris carried by water rushing down the street, as it receded. The street must have been flooded from curb to curb. And the clouds are heavy, the air is quite chilly, and the threat of more rain, yet more rain, hangs heavy above our saturated heads. Yesterday I found playa lakes near me approaching flood stage. I would not be surprised to find them overflowing into streets. Quite impressive. Many rains. 

But I think the rain chances were supposed to diminish, to BEGIN to diminish today. We'll see. 

Just Like That!

 Last afternoon, late, I heard a sort of rapping, a sort of tapping, at my chamber door. It was HAIL, quarter sized, driven by a very strong wind, and then rain poured down in torrents. Just like that, everything changed. Lubbock and surrounding areas got soused. It will be cloudy and cool all day and rain is likely all day, off and on, and into the night and through the night. I could do without the hail. It really battered some of the stuff I've got growing outside, but it probably needed to be thinned anyway. So nature did the work for me. There is more than enough still standing, and what is still standing will grow rapidly after such rains. It is a great relief from the heat! Meanwhile everything is soaked. We are under a flood advisory at this very moment. 

Yesterday it was hot, but not all that bad-- certainly not "unbearable". Not oppressive. This morning it is so cool that some thin-blooded people might wear a sweater. 

Pretty Hot Yesterday

 But dry air and breezes and overcast kept us out of the triple digits, and now chances for rain and storms return, with moderating temperatures and cooler mornings. Some relief, at least. And very welcome. Not bad at all on the patio yesterday evening. It should be not as hot today, and very nice tomorrow. Next week looks to be full of rain chances and more moderate temps. 

A simple life is a positive joy, but I'm not sure that I would want to be "off grid". That would be a bit much. 

Hot Again

 Despite yesterday's heat it felt good outside around sundown, and after. It'll be hotter today but relief tomorrow and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday will be about normal with decent chances for afternoon and evening showers. I have strategies for coping and minimizing my electric bill. Dense vegetation helps quite a lot. 

I think that keeping life simple is the smartest thing anyone can do. 

Hot On The Sixth!

 But there were overnight storms that brought enough rain to negate any need for me to water this evening. Plenty of thunder and lightning too. Today it should be hot again but also quite windy, and the clouds are hanging around. Tough to say how accurate the forecast will be. How hot it will actually be, whether we will receive more rain. A very mystery! I rather like mystery. It is sometimes very boring when questions are answered, especially when the answers are simple-minded. I like complexity as well as mystery. But no complexity in my day to day life, please. No complications. Let all be copacetic. 

Meanwhile, let there be more rain.
