Sunflowers 47

Maybe it will rain today. If it does it probably won't be much. Even a bit of moisture will be a pleasant change. And it is not at all cold. Maybe tomorrow it will be cold with a light sprinkle of snow. But that will be a one day affair.

Not that I really want much of a winter. I had enough winter last year to last the rest of my life. I'd rather not go through that again.

Sunflowers 46

Rain chances at last, and on New Year's Eve and New Year's. Good timing. I've always felt that those were stupid things to celebrate. Maybe the rain and cold weather will "dampen" the nonsense. Too much nonsense and too much stupid running free this time of year. There are only two holidays that make any sense at all to me, and they are Labor Day and Memorial Day. And Halloween is kind of fun, but not a holiday.  Meanwhile...

In fact, Halloween/Day of the Dead makes quite a LOT of sense.

Omicron in Lubbock. Not many people wearing masks anymore or doing any social distancing. It's going to be rough. I suspect that many of the people I see NOT wearing a mask are also unvaccinated. We definitely live in interesting times.

I suppose it's possible that after Omicron infects as many people as it's going to infect (a LOT) this pandemic will be mostly over. Then we can sit back and wait for the next one.

Sunflowers 44

This is shaping up to be a pretty nice day. Temps mild, winds light, and plenty of sunshine. Things are getting back to normal around here, in terms of traffic and crowds.

There's going to be some black and white stuff coming up here eventually. I guess there's a place for that.

Sunflowers 43

Our very mild weather continues, with plenty of clouds but not a chance of rain.

I finally got new photos in a new area. I think they will be interesting. Eventually they will appear here.

Sunflowers 42

The wind got strong and the dust blew, but still far from the worst I've experienced. Today should be great.

The successful launch of the James Webb telescope was a wonderful gift!

Sunflowers 41

I finished my outdoor work yesterday, but so far no dust and no high winds. I imagine all that will come later. That's all right. I'd rather deal with above normal temps and blowing dust than ice, snow, sleet, single digit wind chills, and all the rest of that misery we would normally have around this time of year. But I know it's coming. Maybe the longer warm weather holds out, the less severe the rest of the winter will be.

I just wish it would rain.

Sunflowers 40

No white Christmas for Lubbock but maybe a brown (blowing dust) Christmas Eve and record high temps. That's happened before but I can't remember exactly when. Maybe in the eighties. This has always been a drought prone region. A "semi-arid land" but it seems to be moving in the direction of arid, with no modifier. Dry, dry, dry, dry.  Texas Tech used to take pride in an International Center For The Study Of Arid And Semi-arid Lands. ICASALS is what it used to be called. Haven't heard much about that in many years. Maybe like the MUMS it came and went. City of MUMS and city of CHURCHES... now, it's the city of what?

I did some work outside yesterday and today I will finish the job I started. I want to get it done before the wind and dust become issues, and that is scheduled for tomorrow. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, all of tomorrow's tomorrows lead us at last to dusty death and extinction. No handy dun dress ( an allusion!) but only death. Ha. Ha. Some humor for the dismal season... and that's yet another allusion! I'm on a roll.

Sunflowers 39

Looks like near record warm temps this week. That's fine with me, but rain is needed. Awfully dry around here.

Apart from that, steady as she goes...
