Finishing New Braunfels 2018

And then it will be necessary to find some more stuff to photograph. There is plenty right here in town. But I must find the necessary motivation.

I take these photos in the core of town, where virtually everything is historic.

This is the best part of New Braunfels, and the most desirable area to live.

In the background you see the Model Railroad Museum. My father was involved in that.

I grew up hearing stories about Willy Gebhardt, inventer of this famous chili powder. I spent part of my early life in the building he used for his laboratory, which later became a home. I used to have the single shot .22 rifle he supposedly used to try to shoot himself-- he missed. I have no idea what became of it.

This popular cafe has been a New Braunfels fixture for many, many, years. Krause's. Eat there if you ever have a chance.
 Yes, you've got some modern.
But you've got a lot more old, and that is a good thing.

More New Braunfels

Trying to finish this up, since I want to try to get some Lubbock seasonal stuff, like decorations around town and maybe Holland Gardens again.

There were crews setting up ATM machines in this parking lot. Money flows like beer...

I've got a LOT of memories of this place. But I am not a Catholic anymore.
Across from the Landa Park entrance there is an old building. It was there when I was a child. I finally photographed it.

Craft beers were not available this time around. But you could drink a lot of Michelob.

Let's look at some old houses.

There are a lot, and most are well-maintained and/or carefully restored.

In New Braunfels they are proud of their history, and they work hard to preserve whatever they can. This is not the case in Lubbock. I will finish New Braunfels next time.

New Braunfels 2018 WURSTFEST

These pics were taken from a parking area across the street, as things were being set up. It was going to be bigger and better than ever. But I did not go. Been there, done that. More than once.

This was a flour mill, once. It was a flour mill when I was a child.

When Wurstfest began it was poorly organized, randy, rowdy, and not especially family friendly. It was held in the basement of a burned out building downtown. There was a tendency for beer-sodden drunks to spill out into the streets. It is not at all like that today. It has not been like that for a long time.

More next time...
