Another Hot Day

Early morning and late evening are not so bad, and that's when I do any work that might be required. Things are a little chaotic lately but nothing I can't handle.

This grassy stuff could be cultivated. It produces a grain that is quite good. Difficult, though, since it never gets more than about a foot tall.

Still Hot!

Hot but not super extreme. Dry and breezy sure does help. I use the sprinkling system around the patio for five minutes each evening and get a nice evaporative cooler effect for about an hour. Mosquitoes have not been so bad lately.

You'll notice in these pics, seed heads, and I've eaten some of these grains and they are very good but labor intensive. They are quite tasty, rather nutty. I continue to eat the goosefoot leaves, in moderation, freshly picked. I don't cook them. I want them absolutely fresh. It's amazing how many things we consider weeds, that are actually nutritious enough to sustain life. How spoiled we've become. Civilization has turned us into candy asses. At least, my ass is HARD candy.

HOT!

Yes, hot but the heat index, with our low humidity and breezy conditions, is not at all bad. Dry air and wind makes it easier to take triple digits. I'm not sure triple digits are even in the forecast, since the "heat dome" seems to be located farther north and east, not squatting right on top of us. Can we catch another break?

I had some business to take care of this morning, and it all went very, very, well.

Heating Up, Drying Out

For a while it was not all that hot but it was also quite humid. Soon we'll be back to triple digits but the humidity will be low. I think the "comfort" level will remain about the same. And if it manages to be breezy, as it is this morning, not so bad. Earthquakes continue. A 5.1 somewhere in West Texas and a disaster declared! Disaster? With a 5.1?

I guess you can't be a frackin' fool without some consequences.

Many Earthquakes In Texas!

And they are getting stronger, and all are centered in and around areas where fracking has been taking place for years. Hey, if Midland and Odessa collapsed into a giant sinkhole I would not shed a tear. Or it could be that fracking fluids have lubricated ancient and inactive faults, so that they can become active again. Maybe Texas will get what Texas deserves, but we must wait and see. Calm in this area. Cool morning and a pleasant afternoon yesterday and probably today a nice afternoon but triple digits will return next week. That, of course, is what one expects for August. If the air is dry enough, it will not be so bad. Rain chances are nil during that period, though most days will be partly cloudy. A plume of dust from the Sahara is due to arrive mid-week. Will that have any effect on our temperatures, an albedo effect?

Are we about to discover what it means to "shake and bake"?
