A Weak Norther

Yes,  a weak frontal boundary moved through just before sunrise. It felt good. If only it had more punch. I, of course, am always up and active at least an hour before sunrise. I can't imagine "sleeping in". An alien concept, although I know it works for many. It just doesn't work for me. To each their own.

Someday, I might actually take that little trip east, out to Acuff, to see whether this steakhouse is still there. My wife and I ate there at least twice in the past. A humble buffet-style place, with vast amounts of food that you could accurately describe as "home-cooked". Simple fare, all you can eat, nothing fancy. No table like any other, oil cloth, a variety of chairs, some wood, some metal, some folding. I really hope they are still in business.

Cool Morning

Since I'm always up and at it before sunrise, I get as much of the cool outside air in the house as possible. I have an arrangement for that. For the most part, not much happening here, at least not much that interests me. Still doing my best to keep the outside world outside, where it belongs. I want no part of it. Except for the esoteric stuff, with a high quotient of abstraction and theory. That's always of interest. It's great to be able to follow such things on one's home computer!

As anyone can see from what I photograph, the things I consider "interesting bits" are not what 99.99% of the population would take an interest in. I just happen to like the more obscure and generally disregarded structural features of the "real world". But make no mistake-- it's all part of the "real world".

Another Addition To The Site List

I'm adding to my link list at the very bottom of the blog. It's a collection of excellent sites I highly recommend. Meanwhile we enjoy more or less normal temps for a June in this area, the rainfall has been ample, and the ducks are in a row. Take that anyway you like.

I try to preserve and protect an island of intellect and rationality in a sea of nonsense and goofy garbage. But I'm open to new ideas. I've made my seasonal transition from red wine to chilled white. It's a weather-related thing: hearty red wines in the winter and chilled, dry, white wines in the summer. I don't have wine with meals. I have wine with a book, in the evening. Iced tea in summer with a book during the daytime hours. I like to read. I love to read. When I'm done with most books, they go to FOL. Some fiction I keep on the shelves, but mostly the permanent collection consists of references. The science and math books, for instance. The fiction I keep is worth re-reading. A simple and uncomplicated life is all I want now, and, really, all I need. But that requires a degree of isolation that most people would not like. I understand and accept that. Avoidance can be a healthy adaptation, and it is for me.

Rain Over Heat Back

Rain over and heat back sounds rather normal, and normal is quite comforting.

Sunflowers are fine but it is good to be back to the nitty gritty of old days.

VERY Soggy

From famine to feast, from drought to flooding. It never rains but it pours, and so on. After complaining for so long about the drought, it's rained a bit too much. When the heat returns it'll be very swampy and oppressive. But what the heck, the rain was needed.
