Heavy junk warning ahead.
There's nothing sterile or fake about these parts of town. Unlike much of Southwest Lubbock, there are no "whited sepulchers" here. Here, the bones are in full view, and the decay is on public display.
Yes, we are moving toward one of my favorite junk zones, just off I-27.
We revisit this area from time to time to see what might be new.
These are all pics of things in the same general area as the old tin building I put up yesterday. We are kind of looking around up and down Avenue L before we move toward I-27, to the east.
On the other hand, even though it is sort of an eyesore in this neighborhood, I like stuff like this and it is actually in better shape than some of the houses! You can see this on Avenue L. It used to be storage for "Rainbo Bread", and then LISD used it, and now it just seems to be abandoned. While I was photographing it, with my wife safely in my car and ready to flee if necessary, a woman in the neighborhood shouted at me and told me she was going to call the police! "I'm going to call the police," she said. Why, I wondered. At any rate, I got my pics.
For all I know, there really is a law against photographing things like this!
Before I get into the main photo series, I just want to post a few pics to show what a little rain will do for this area. We revisited the "hidden" playa lake and it was FULL. And stuff starts growing...
