Hot Days Cool Mornings

 Summertime temps have arrived.

Memorial Day is on the horizon. Time passes.

Warm

It's getting warm, but with dry air and light breezes. The ground is still soaked from all the rain recently. Really not bad at all. I had my usual drive this morning, and on the return trip I intersected another part of my old bike route, when I was an avid cyclist. Some things have changed and some things have remained much as they were. This morning I made a circuit of most of my guitars, and that felt good. I need to keep my fingers in condition. On another front I'm getting some esthetic pleasure from Capablanca's games, replaying them on one of my chess sets. I've got several nice boards and several sets purchased on eBay, like vintage USCF club specials, and a vintage LARDY Staunton, and so on. A couple of recent sets purchased on eBay, also vintage, give me a lot of pleasure. I was fortunate to get many of these sets at bargain prices, and one vintage plastic Staunton set is in a style I have never seen anywhere, and quite nice. I priced a set of vintage Drueke's and they were too much for the sake of nostalgia. I'll stick with what I've got now. I actually considered buying an old Yamaha nylon string classical guitar listed on eBay, but couldn't pull the trigger. Affording it wasn't the issue. I find it impossible to overcome habits of frugality and a deeply ingrained aversion to any form of self-indulgence. So be it.

It's impossible for me to understand people who are comfortable with debt, who are comfortable with spending money on "luxury" items. I believe that such people have a toxic and distorted sense of their own worth-- those are people I want nothing to do with. They are dangerous!

Hot Weekend

This will be our first really hot weekend. Dry air will make it endurable, and mornings remain cool. Not all that bad, really.

I have no work to do this weekend. And no weights, since I need recovery time.

Heavy Rain!

The storm system moved in from the west and dumped quite a lot of rain, but now we are about to enjoy a spell of dry air and sunshine and very warm temps, which will be welcome after so much soaking.

If anybody is going to have a cotton crop, or corn, or even sunflowers, they ought to have more than adequate soil moisture. I miss the days when sunflowers were grown west of town, in areas that have been turned into sterile strip malls and tracts of housing. Truly, I detest growth. I'm so happy that there's not much of that going on in my part of town. May it ever be thus.

More Rain and Cool again

There were very strong storms north of Lubbock. A norther blew them our way and we got heavy rain again. It will be cool and rainy again today, after a warm day yesterday. Could be a rather hot weekend. It was another vintage and fine evening outdoors! This day began sunny but now clouds move in and it is getting quite dark-- probably another shower coming up. Interesting. I begin to suspect that the summer might be like this, with roller coaster temps and spells of heavy rain.

Lubbock has a door-to-door sales problem, although the city council won't ban such activity, as other cities have, with their mania for "business friendly" practices, even if those practices imperial home owners. And it's perfectly possible that some fed up individual will put a bullet in a poor door-to-door salesperson. I'm going to try signage. If that doesn't work...
