So Far So Good

Really bad yesterday with terrible wind chills but dry and sunny all day. Not as cold this morning as last morning but still unpleasant, and it is cloudy. But the wind is way down and it might reach 20 today. When it finally thaws Saturday I'll have to check the outdoor faucets. They were well insulated but when it gets this cold and stays so cold for so long, who knows? And I fully expect to go through all of this again this season-- yet another unprecedented blast of bitter cold and once again the talk will be of a "generational storm", a "once-in-a-hundred-years" winter storm. Earth's climate is out of balance, the weather machine has been perturbed by fossil fuel burning, and there will be increasingly wild excursions from equilibrium. Expect chaos. That's really bad for me because I like order and predictability. ORDNUNG! Alas, so many things are beyond my control. If only.

I remind myself that I am not the only victim. We are ALL victims. Every living thing is a victim.

The Winter Bum-blast

Oh yes, it has arrived. But yesterday it was very pleasant and that allowed me to do what I could to prepare. Big thing is the wind chill. Can't have a proper winter bum-blast without a howling wind: sound and fury signifying nothing. Idiot, random, nature. Idiot, random, universe. The fine-structure of nothingness. It's a right nasty place for anything sentient.

Tomorrow it won't be quite as bad, because the winds die down substantially. Saturday a high above freezing, so they say. And a rapid warming next week. Until the next "generational" storm. How many "generational" storms can you have in one generation? I thought 2021 was supposed to be a "once in a hundred years event". It gets rather stupid when every winter features a "once in a generation" crap storm. Something is obviously screwed up here.

The Stupid BOMB CYCLONE Routine Again

So annoying and so dumb. So I guess I will take a few extra measures today to protect things from Mother Nature (that WITCH) and hope it all passes quickly. A smashing asteroid could send us all the way of the dinosaurs and a solar flare could snuff out civilization as we know it. Anyone who tells you that the universe is "hospitable" to life is a freaking idiot. Life is a fluke whenever it appears, no matter WHERE it appears, and is quickly snuffed out. You can comfort yourself by dreaming of a grand design and purpose. But where is the evidence?

It all seems rather stupid and pointless. A REALLY advanced civilization would see how dumb it all is and stop breeding. Hmmm. Could THAT explain the Fermi Paradox?

Weather Still OK

I've got today and tomorrow to finish prepping for the coming Arctic blast, words I did not want to hear this winter. What a drag. It looks like two days of bitter cold and a rebound but the damn forecasts are simply worthless. Still no snow in our forecasts, and that's the only good thing. How I hate winter. Oh well. That's life in the PU, a place that is basically hostile to life. Where you find life it's in a tiny oasis, clinging to a rock, in essence, and doomed to eventual extinction. Welcome to the Physical Universe! It stinks. Reality makes one want to be a dualist, crazy as that is, just to escape the futility of existence in the stinking, rotten, detestable, PU. The impending "Arctic BUM-blast" has got me in a foul mood. Who ordered this crap, anyway??

If it takes a sense of humor to make life endurable, then life really is a joke. But not a very good one. On the other hand, if you like your jokes sick and twisted, cruel and mean... this is the place for you! Enjoy.

Very Cold Soon

But as usual the forecasts are always changing. If this weather event comes off as predicted it will be yet another example of freakish weather becoming the new normal. Ten, twenty, years ago this sort of thing WOULD have been exceptional. Not now. Now, it happens every season, more than once in a season: something extreme.

And this crap comes from Siberia! From Russia! That adds insult to injury.
