Global Warming Is Real

And the climate changes caused by human fossil fuel use are probably out of control. Runaway greenhouse, anyone? I'll be OK, of course. I'm too old to be around for the real disasters to come. But if you have any children, they'll probably be very, very, uncomfortable and their children might be in a desperate situation. Gee, I'm so glad I decided not to breed. No hostages to fate was my motto then, and it was a good one.

Plenty More Heat

As hot as the coming days will be, we'll still be well off the record high of 1995, at 114 F. It's questionable whether the Texas power grid will make it, since outages in Austin (ironic, isn't it) have already occurred. And this is after "upgrades". I suspect that the only upgrades were to the bank accounts of Asshole Abbot's political cronies and partners in crime. Only my opinion, of course. But something is very fishy about these chronic power grid failures. It would help a lot to shut down bit mining in this state. Everywhere, for that matter. But I'm sure many palms were greased in order to get that crap established in Texas. The people suffer and the crooks prosper.

What a summer. What a bummer.

Being Or Nothingness?

My vote would be for nothingness, except that nothingness probably amounts to nonsense. Like it or not, "existence exists", as the Objectivists like to chant. There is no alternative. Some early pre-Socratic, whose name escapes me (I could look it up) postulated a primal stuff, out of which everything is made, and that primal stuff has no beginning or end. I'd think of that in terms of a generic quantum field. Whether or not there is such a thing is a question that science can probably answer.

Consider an unbounded set of random variables with an unbounded variance. Given infinite time, what might emerge from such a soup? Would you treat something like that as a maximum entropy state or a minimum entropy state? Only THE SHADOW knows! And he ain't tellin'.

Sunflowers Today

 Looking on the bright side.

Nothing lasts.

No Sunflowers Today

I'm switching back to views of Lubbock and area. I intend to go back and forth on this stuff. There's even more in the pipeline, and as temps moderate, eventually, maybe in a couple of months, I need to scout around Lubbock again.

Life is...
