Closer Looks New

Wildfires in Texas continue, and bad things happen in this state, and a lot of those bad things you can place at the feet of our ruling triumvirate of hopeless, bottom-feeding assholes. Ann Richards was the ONLY good governor this state ever had.

See what I'm up to here? It's all about trying to squeeze something interesting out of the most humble stuff I can find. And, I've added another useful link to the bottom of this blog, for those who crave science news. It's an excellent site.

More New Closer Looks

This day begins cool and calm after plenty of wind and dust and wildfires and evacuations here and there yesterday. More of the same is in the forecast for today. Texas burns as well as parts of New Mexico. The drought is severe. Couple those ultra dry conditions with the relentless winds at this time of year, and you've got plenty of trouble. Spring has always been a crappy time of year around here, with dust in the air but this year it's especially bad. Welcome to climate change. Meanwhile, I'd be very happy to see interest rates hover around 6%. 10%? Great! Excellent for savers. Like me. Interest rates have been too low for too long.

This is why I like to do those close-ups. There are so many cool things to be discovered!

New Closer Looks

And it looks like this will be yet another windy and dusty and dry day with a high grass fire potential. Texas continues to burn, here and there. We had a "firenado" west of town a few days ago. So it goes. I've done essential watering this morning because it'll be impossible when the wind gets up. I respect the drought restrictions, for the most part. But every time I water I feel that I'm driving another small nail into Lubbock's coffin. That gives me a bit of satisfaction. And when I hand water, I do it lavishly. I don't mind the water bills. They really aren't that bad. And it serves a larger purpose, watering like that. Heh. Heh.

I found some good areas to take my pictures in last Sunday!

Closer Looks-- NEW!

Windy and dusty and windy and dusty and dry and windy and dusty, day after day after day. One becomes tired of eating and breathing dust, but that's life in Lubbock. Life in Lubbock seems to be worse than usual lately. And that means it's pretty bad.

Some of these new things will be experiments in "found art", in the true spirit of Dadaism insofar as I can figure out what that was. Visual Dada? Or perhaps doodoo. And it might not be sufficiently minimalist since I tinker with the images to bring out their potential-- to make the latent emerge. That's coming up.

A Few Words of Warning

Not ALL of these "closer looks" will involve the past. This morning, for instance, I found some new things. NEW. Ugh. How I detest the new. But the things I photographed are OLD, so, maybe, then, offsetting penalties, and no loss?? On the way home I encountered a horrifying single vehicle accident involving a Jeep. Many patrol cars! An entire intersection blocked off! I had to detour! Sunday morning, very light traffic, excellent visibility in all directions, everything well-controlled by traffic signals, dry pavement, and somehow, someone driving that Jeep managed to crash it, badly. VERY badly. Two people, occupants of that Jeep, with serious injuries. Go figure.
