Beyond Crosbyton

You can get to Spur from Lubbock by taking a right in Dickens, but there is also a turn off onto a two-lane blacktop road that undulates gently through farm country, and we got to Spur that way-- it's the scenic route. 

This stretch of road does not have much traffic and I thought of how neat it would be to do it on a bicycle, maybe starting from Spur and returning, making a round trip. It's definitely the sort of thing a bike club should consider.

We took our time, and enjoyed the drive.

 

Crosbyton

So this continues the Dairy Queen area...

It's really one of the town's social hotspots!

Best of all, there was nobody smoking in the DQ!

And so we bid farewell to Crosbyton and after driving a few more miles the terrain changes...

The new landscape is a welcome change!

Still On The Road

I kind of like snapping pics out the car window as things whizz by. The camera I use for this has an "action" feature that reduces blurring, but when blurring does occur, it sometimes lends an interesting effect when the pic is processed.

On and on we go.

We stopped at the Dairy Queen in Crosbyton. It was Sunday and after church, so half the town was there. That's what you do in Crosbyton. I took some photos around the DQ.

... than to stray outside the limited realm of what I "know" and "understand", like taking pictures!
You can't go wrong with a camera! And here is more, more of the sights between Lubbock and Spur!

 There are signs of recent rain, and evidence of the unkillable weeds that have appeared in so many fields.

For many miles the land is flat and the road is straight. 

Then again...

... I don't really understand why voting in this country is so difficult. Only so much time is allowed? Some people are in danger of losing their jobs if they take the time to vote, especially if election officials have contrived to make the process so slow and so inefficient that it might take hours of standing in line in order to cast that ballot? That's not right. There's no reason for voting in this country to be anything other than quick and easy. The process is slow enough and stupid enough and annoying enough and punitive enough, in some cases, to discourage people. What if you don't have transportation? What if you are too sick to leave your home? There ought to be a way to vote, no matter what your circumstances are, an easy way.
