Wintering Ducks and Geese

These were taken at a playa lake, one of many around town. It is going dry, like all the others.

These migrating birds are losing habitat, thanks to the drought.

Levelland Set 12

It's been too cold around here for us to do any photography. It's a good thing I took a lot of pics in Levelland.

Levelland Set 11

My wife and I did watch the Super Bowl commercials and some of them were very cute, and even moving. As for the game, I think any good sports writer could have looked at the team's stats and predicted the blow-out. Nobody predicted a blow-out because it was forbidden. Hype at all costs. Build it up. LIE! Deceive. Don't say anything that might discourage viewer's expectations. Too much money involved.

We are getting close to the end of this Levelland series.

Levelland Set 9

A little more evidence of that BIG OIL BOOM, and then other stuff.

We got hit with a real cold *SNAP* this morning, very early, and today the snow falls. Well, better snow than nothing. At least it is some form of moisture in this parched land. We were not planning to do much today other than go to church, but given road conditions, we won't even do that. Good day to stay warm and do stuff around the house. At some point, I will get out and put food in the bird feeder outside my office window. Maybe I will tramp out to the alley dumpster with a sack of our accumulated garbage, but that's surely going to be it, as far as outside stuff goes. We saw a great play at Cactus Theater last evening! "Always, Patsy Cline"-- and that's the last time they will do this play. Great talent displayed, as is usual for the Cactus. My wife saw it for the first time, and for me it was the second. It wasn't too cold when we got to our parking spot, but by the time we left there was a bitter north wind and it went downhill from there. There seemed to be an extraordinary number of crazy drivers out last evening. Maybe Super Bowl mania had something to do with it? Lots of wrecks, lots of emergency vehicles, lots of speeders, lots of red light runners, lots of weaving around from one lane to another. I had to be really careful, driving among the local crazies last night. One thing my wife and I will NOT be doing is watching the g*damned Super Bowl. Neither one of us is a football fan. We might try to catch the commercials on the internet, however.
