More July 4th 2017 In Lubbock, Texas

From now on, it is all about our garden.

Next summer it will be even better, because I have doubled the size of it.

We want to attract birds and insects. Snakes and lizards and spiders are also welcome.

I like a garden that is semi-wild, rather than planned.

If it grows it's good. We don't obsess over weeds. The one thing I do not want is grass: wild grass, oat grass, rye grass, Bermuda, or any other variety-- none of that.

We attracted a lot of bees last summer.

We will finish this series next time, and move on to other adventures.

Continuing July 4th 2017 In Lubbock, Texas

On or about July 4th, plus or minus one day. Hot and humid. It had rained a lot before the day of big celebrations.

There was plenty of evidence of that rain in McKenzie Park, where the fireworks display was scheduled. McKenzie Park has been known to flood, in fact.

And yet, folks were setting up tents, getting ready for the big event.
There is stuff to photograph all around the park, like the old and abandoned hamburger stand.

 You find old agricultural equipment.

In the park, the usual tents and a big stage.

We like this old stuff.

I exercised my best camera.

We moved on, to Mae Simmons Park, then went home. It would come to pass that the fireworks would be cancelled due to thunderstorms-- a rain event put the kibosh on the celebrations in 2017.
At home, we enjoyed our garden.

Our sunflowers attracted birds. The moon was just there. I was just experimenting more with the new lens I got for the NIKON.  I was zooming and booming.

If sunflowers were good enough for those early impressionists, they are certainly good enough for me.
 The moon was a distraction.

More of this next time.
